Mission

Build an immersive first-person horror experience focused on atmosphere, tension, and environmental storytelling rather than cheap jumpscares. The aim was to craft a world where the forest itself feels alive, hostile, and unpredictable, pushing the player into constant psychological pressure.

Challenge

Horror games fail when the player “figures out” the environment or the monster. The biggest challenge was designing: a dynamic lighting and sound system that reacts to the player’s movement, AI behavior that doesn’t follow predictable patterns, a forest environment that shifts subtly to create paranoia, a narrative delivered through exploration instead of cutscenes, and performance optimization for a large, open environment without breaking immersion. Creating believable tension required balancing gameplay mechanics, visual design, and audio engineering so the player never fully feels safe.

Goal

Deliver a vertical-slice horror experience where players can: Explore a dense, procedurally darkened forest with minimal guidance. Encounter an adaptive enemy entity that hunts based on noise and line-of-sight. Use limited tools (flashlight, flares, scraps) to survive and navigate. Uncover hidden story fragments that reveal the forest’s curse. Experience escalating tension through dynamic soundscapes and shifting terrain. The project demonstrates an understanding of game design principles, environmental storytelling, AI behavior, and real-time rendering required for atmospheric horror games.
